Obituary for Diane Janowski Halasz

Diane Halasz, 77, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Saturday, February 23, 2019. She was born in Erie, PA on June 28, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Chester and Rose Janowski.

Diane graduated from East High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English and Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from the Pennsylvania State University. She was a guidance counselor at Downers Grove High School in Illinois. She served as a counselor and manager of the Norwalk Rehabilitation Center in Connecticut. Diane later returned to Erie and worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at Penn State Behrend, VRS and Crawford & Company.

Most of all Diane loved spending time with her family, whether it was visiting with her daughter and son-in-law, vacationing in the Outer Banks, going to family gatherings, shopping, attending sporting events and just going out for coffee. She lived a full and active life, and never let age or illness slow her down. She enjoyed every moment of life.

Diane was a kind and generous person. She made friends wherever she went and was always there to listen to those who wanted to talk.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Watral Koper (Chris); three sisters, Donna Nishnick (Dave), Rose Hanks (Steve) and Patty Port; five nieces and nephews, Kim Campbell (Chuck), Cheri Longua (Charlie), Jimmy Tromans (Debbie), Pam Hanks, Jan Woods (Jeff) and many aunts and uncles, cousins and their children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Halasz.

Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.), on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend the funeral service there on Thursday at 10 a.m. Diane will be laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery, next to her husband, James.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Diane’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
